Well.........
Well so something I learned is that Las Vegas, Nevada means The Meadows, Snowfall. Nevada means snowfall in spanish...go figure. That does not describe where we are from, and you know what it also doesnt describe? Bakersfield......and guess who will be living in Bakersfield as of tomorrow?? ME! Hahah Im moving to Bakersfield...my area is the little farm towns of Arvin and Lamount. Hahaha. BACK TO MEXICO. Also Mom you said something about going to Oxnard for the beach...did you forget that Ive been living in Newbury park CA for the last 6 weeks?? Haha. Thats ok if you forgot.
ANYWAY. So yeah Im going to Bakersfield and my new companions name is Hermana Randall and she is only one transfer younger than me...ya younger...Im back up training her and will be the senior companion so I will be driving. Weirddddd. Hna Burch will be getting a brand new missionary. I guess Arvin and Lamont is straight up Mexico and the only grocery store is a "Vallarta"....spanish store and the closest normal store is a Walmart 30 min away. Hahaha. Its going to be so different than Newbury park and Im so sad to leave all of my investigators and to leave the members...but Bring on Bakersfield in July!!!!! Seriously its going to be such an awesome adventure.
Mom, Im sorry to hear that you arent feeling very well Majorase! (Get better!) Tell Uncle Don and the rest of the fam bam and I say hello and am doing really well.
My mind is blank....well I was worried about leaving one of our investigators because one is super solid and one is struggling...and I just wanted to help. They both have baptismal dates but its hard when one of the people in the marriage are progessing slower than the other. Anyway...so in the last couple of days he has really opened up and started showing a budding testimony of the gospel. Its wonderful and gives me so much peace in leaving. God has been so merciful to me in the last few days preparing me to leave...obviously I only found out this morning that Im leaving but I can look back now and see...Ive been able to have sweet experiences with people and the members.
One cool experience I had was we were driving out to Thousand Oaks and the first thing we had to do was knock and I was not feeling well (ive been a little sick) and I was just thinking, " I have no idea how Im going to do this"....so I was worrying about that but right before we went out I said a little prayer, stepped out of the car and was ready to go. I know that prayer really works and Heavenly Father listens to even the most smallest prayers, like I know that I was just a little sick but I really felt like I needed divine help and He gave it to me.
Ok so I dont remember much other things that I wanted to say...my mind is going around around and around in circles...
OHHH ...ok so i got your package THANK YOU SO MUCH...I also got your package a while ago with CDS...thank you for that too...we have been enjoying them! You guys are the best and I love the color of the cardigan.
Ok so I guess Ill tell you about something me and my companion have talked about...so here the spanish people are spread out so we really have come up with a little system to find them and these are some of the things..
1. if its july and you have christmas lights up..we will knock on your door
2. if you have carpet in your front lawn....we will knock on your door
3. if you have anything of the "Virgen" on your house car painted on your garage doorr ext....we will knock on your door
4. if you have a messy rose garden....we will knock on your door
5. if you have a mop propped outside your front door (dead give away)...we will knock on your door
6. if you have little knickknacks all over your front lawn...we will knock on your door
7. if you have any other holiday items outside...we will knock on your door
Hahaha unfortunately these are also things that are common with old people and red necks haha.
Mariah...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I want to know exactly what you did! Just play it by ear and have fun!
I would like some pictures...that would be great. Also...one day it would be cool if you could maybe buy these CDs for me? Marcela Gandara Abel Zauala they are spanish christian artists..ill send you more info next week or ...later IDK. You can buy it on Amazon.
ANYWAY I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH! I will write again next week in BAKERSFIELD!
YOU GUYS ARE amazing. The gospel is true!
On July 9 2011 I had my chance to be saved.....we were talking to this man about our faith in jesus christ and it was beautiful...and then...he got all serious and read us a scripture in Romans and and he told us that we need to say this certain prayer and raise our hand to the heavens and confess jesus as our savior and then he asked me to do it....and i was like No...sorry we believe that we should confess jesus as our savior by our actions.....well he was not please and he told me that i needed to remember this date and that it was my chance to confess jesus as my savior and be saved....haha. oh man.

I LOVE A-MUR-I-CAAA!!
Well Family, Happy 4th of July. I just got finished reading all of your emails and they all made me tear up a little bit. I have a great family who have great testimonies!
So the stake that we are in had a little fourth of July thing this morning with pancakes and some songs, we went because one of the families we are teaching went. We also decided to go all out and dress up...so im wearing my red skirt a white sweater with blue strips and red lipstick. Yay america. Haha. I will send pictures next week or something.
Oh and since its the fourth of July the library is closed and so is the family history center so Im here in the apple store writing my email on a macbook. KILL ME. and we walked by a Jcrew...but before we went inside i told my companion to make me keep walking...im a missionary I cant do stuff like that. ahhh.
Speaking of next week...next week is the last week of the transfer so I might be transfered...I think something will change because 2 new Hermanas are coming and my companion will be one of the oldest in the mission and hasnt trained yet...so she will probably train and I think Ill go back to Oxnard, but you never know. I dont want to change our companionship right now BUT I know I will do what the Lord wants me to do and it will be GREAT.
Ok well I forgot my agenda in the house with all the things I wanted to tell you guys and I looked at my compy and told her and she said "peloso". THis means ....hairy. So first story. So this week we were walking down a busy street in thousand oaks and we walked by this one car full of white males who were like 20-25. They were yellin stuff at us but we couldnt hear them..i figured they were trying to flirt with us or something so we just kept walking...then we were waiting to cross the street and we hear honking so we look over and BAM. Hairy bum fully hanging out the window. Barf Barf Barf. Ha. haha. But really...weird.
Then later that day we were tracting and we started walking up to a guy who was sitting in his chair and shirtless and started talking but we didnt get to close....good thing because we then realized he was probably....NAKED....gross. WHy life? Why? Im a missionary....hahaha. But ya..weird day.
Then something important is that we got to meet our new mission president on Saturday. He has a family and 3 of them still live at home. THey are all so sweet. I def. felt a huge confirmation that he is suppose to be our mission president right now. He talked to us about obedience and things like that and we came out super inspired. Im going to miss the Murri's but I am so excited to get to know the Castro's and love them. I already do. THey are from equador, so they speak perfect spanish.
Oh speaking of spanish....ill tell you something funny. I seriously have a problem switching from spanish to english english to spanish. Like something that i really love in our companion ship is that we NEVER speak in english, BUT there are plenty of people around us who dont speak spanish. Like the elders, so we have to speak english sometimes. Anyway like this morning I was talking to our investigator in spanish and then I started speaking to the Elders in spanish. hahah and NO ONE stops me until I realize what I was doing haha. Its ridiculous!
Oh and one thing you probably already know..but we were at dinner at a english members house and they started telling me that the brother of the husband lives in Las Vegas...in the NW, so he texted him and he is in the Copper Crest ward. Small world. Last name is Hawkins. Anyway so we were sitting there and Bro. Hawkins was like well...Hna Tippetts...the Skousen's say hi...and I know your first name now. Ha. It was so weird knowing that he was talking to his brother who was with people I know. The Skousen's are awesome.
Ok..so I normally dont share scriptures with you all but I promisethat I read the BOOk of mormon everyday and I love it..but today I wanted to share a scripture that I read this morning and I love it. 1 Nefi 15:24-25. This is pretty much how I feel every morning and what I want to do every day.
The work here is moving...we see a lot more rejection here but it makes the people who want to listen even sweeter to us.
I really am grateful for my companion Hna Burch as well. She makes me laugh and she is always willing to listen to how Im feeling. We had an experience where we thought that our investigator needed 2 different things but it led us to really seek direction from the Lord and to really talk about how we feel about things. I feel like Im just learning so much and I love who Im becoming. I just read a email that was forwarded to me from my MTC companion and she was saying the same thing. THe mission is amazing and I hope every young man that reads this reconsiders serving a mission and that every young women is living worthily to serve so if that time comes they can.
I love you all so much and hope you have a happy fourth of July. Thank you all for updating me on whats going on. I know Im not really good at responding to what you have said to me but I promise it means a lot to me and I always tell my compy everything that my family is doing and going through.
Oh and the girls camp story is SO crazy. I was sitting here laughing while i pictured the two of you holding up your tent. Oh man. good memories.
I LOVE YOU!!!
